Dave Grohl Drops Clues On Nirvana Box Set!

The much rumored-about Nirvana box set has no title, firm release date or track list at press time, but former drummer and current Foo Fighter leader Dave Grohl shed a bit of light on the project during an interview with the BBC's Radio 1 this week. Grohl, promoting the Foo's upcoming disc There Is Nothing Left to Lose, told the BBC, "The last song (Nirvana) ever recorded will be on there. That was from like February '94 or something. We went in to do a demo session and recorded one song and not many people have heard it all - maybe a handful of five or ten people... Most of what we recorded from 1990-1994 has been released or heard - maybe if it's live stuff, I'm not sure - but I think the real jewels of that box set will be the really weird stuff that was recorded before I was in the band." Grohl explained that the box set's content is being compiled by a friend of the band, referred to only as "Chris." "He really took the live record that came out a while ago into his own hands and was going through live tape. He put that together and said 'Are you guys cool with this?' and we all said 'Yeah! Sure'. Usually, when there are decisions to be made they'll say 'Hey, you guys think of this idea and we'll think of this idea' and we're 'Oh yeah, sure'. And I'm busy doing Foo Fighters stuff and we always make time to get that done... But at the same time it's nice to look forward to something rather than reverting and going back and digging through a library of a past that you miss or was so great." (Totally! - Ed.) Check Noise for updates on the late, great Nirvana's mystery box as details come in. There Is Nothing Left to Lose hits stores on November 2.

Rape Me Live

In case you haven't heard, the live performance of "Rape Me" from Saturday Night Live will be included on the CD "Saturday Night Live: 25 Years of Musical Performances, Vol. 2." I would have preferred their performance of "Territorial Pissings," but that's just me. The disc will also include "Doll Parts" by Hole. This is on the amazon.com webpage.

Ex-Nirvana Band Members Slam New Nirvana Film!

Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have mauled movie makers over a new film 'A Leonard Cohen Afterworld'. The film, whose title is inspired by a lyric from Nirvana's Pennyroyal Tea, recreates the candlelit memorial in Seattle shortly after Cobain's death on 8 April where Courtney Love read extracts from Cobain's suicide note. The filmmakers even restaged the vigil in the same location (the Seattle Center) inviting people from the area to participate by dressing in Grunge clothing and bringing flowers and cards. According to US website sonicnet, Dave Grohl slammed filmmakers saying he was worried that fans wouldn't be aware that the ex-Nirvana musicians were not supporters of the film. Novoselic said, "It's the same old story, people trying to exploit everything Nirvana stood for - and continues to stand for - just to turn a buck."

Nirvana Producer To Work On New Guns N' Roses Album

Andy Wallace who mixed Nirvana's legendary "Nevermind" album is scheduled to work on the long awaited new album by Guns N' Roses. "Estranged guitarist Slash is telling his official fan Web site that sessions relating to Guns N' Roses' long-rumoured live album will be getting underway with mixer Andy Wallace sometime in July. Wallace's management company confirms that the studio veteran is booked for the sessions from July 12 through to the 29th." - "A spokesperson for Slash confirms the information, but cautions that a live CD is still not a done deal and that the sessions with Wallace are only exploratory." The live album has been anticipated as a Christmas release. However, also expected by the end of the year is the new GN'R studio album, although the latter has been 'expected' annually for the past five years."
