Fish: Which Bone Is Connected To What Bone?

The Skull

The skull is made up of 7 major bones:

  • Frontal = forehead
  • Premaxilla and Maxilla = top of the mouth
  • Dentary = jaw
There are many small bones which make up the face and gills which will be discussed as needed.

The Back and Tail

The back and tail are made up of vertebrae, the vertebral column, and is divided into 2 sections:

  • Trunk = back, rib area
  • Caudal = tail
