One day in the spring of 1988, Denise and Ron went for a walk in the park. Ron, a computer programmer and manager, had been working very long hours and the couple wanted to find a way to spend more time together. Denise suggested they develop a hobby - something they could do together but with other people, something that was active and involved getting out of the house. They sat on a bench and thought for a while, even made a list of characteristics. Then they looked down at their pet Dalmatian girl, Zo, whom they both loved greatly. The next day they called Zos breeder, Anne Fleming, and asked if she might know where they could find a young male of show quality. Of course Anne just happened to have a litter with this very promising liver male that she would be willing to let go. Annes kennel name was Madurhason (after her four sons). When Ron and Denise arrived to pick up their puppy, Anne and her husband Irv had recently returned from a tour of the British Isles. Anne brought out a big map of Scotland and said Pick a city. Glasgow and Edinburgh were already taken, so Ron looked at the map and just pointed at the biggest city - Aberdeen. So the dog became Madurhasons Aberdeen, and because Ron was fond of Z words - his call name was Zeke. Well, young Zeke did okay. Ron and Denise went to conformation class and couldnt wait for Zekes six month birthday. Ron tried his best to learn how to show, but was hopelessly inept. Then they met Diana Jones at the local kennel club, and Diana started giving Ron some very good pointers. Diana would demonstrate with Zeke, and Ron said Goodness he looks good when you do it. So Diana agreed to show Zeke. She took him to three fun matches and won Best in Match in all three. Zekes first weekend showing, at six months and one day, he got best of winners both days. The next weekend, he took a major, but failed to win one day - which seemed very disappointing. Then Zeke was entered in the Atlanta Specialty as he turned seven months. He won best of winners at the specialty and got reserve the next day. Then he took two more majors and a group first before finishing his championship at eight months. Thus Denise and Ron became hooked on dog shows, Aberdeen Kennels was born, Zeke became the foundation sire, and the rest is history! |
