Security personel seize two RMS flags in Ambon
AMBON (Antara): Security personnel seized two flags of the outlawed separatist
"RMS" (Republic of South Maluku) movement in the eastern Indonesian city of
Ambon, Maluku province, on Monday.
The flags which were found fluttering at two separate locations in the city had caused
growing unrest among the people before the police lowered and seized them.
One of the flags was flown on top of a pole at Galala bridge in Sirimau sub district
while the other was found tied on the tower of a lighthouse at the cape of Martafons in
Teluk Ambon sub district.
The flying of the two RMS flags made the local people restless for fear of security
instability following the "illegal cakalele dance" incident committed by some 30 RMS
sympatizers in front of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at Merdeka square here
on Friday when the head of state was attending the commemoration of the 14th
National Family Day (Harganas) in the city. (***)
