Village head suspended for involvement in RMS war dance
incident
AMBON (Antara): Hutumuri village head Ferdinand Waas has been suspended from
his position for involvement in the unscheduled "cakalele" war dance incident
perpetrated by supporters of the separatist "RMS" (Republic of South Maluku)
movement last June 29, Ambon Mayor Jopi Papilaya said Wednesday.
Papilaya said the decision to suspend Ferdinand Wass was made Maluku Police
Chief Brig Gen Guntur Gatot Setyawan stated that Ferdinand was one of the 22
people who did the traditional war dance.
The Hutumuri village head was also one of 39 suspects because the RMS
sympathizers held a meeting at his house before performing the dance in front of
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyo when the head of state was attending a function
to observe the 14th National Family Day (Harganas) at Merdeka square last Friday,
June 29.
Papilaya added that besides the Hutumuri village head, Petrus Rahayaan, a clerk at
State Seniour High School I (SMAN-I), was also suspended from his job for his
involvement in the illegal act.
