Islamic organizations propose syariah anti-corruption
commission
JAKARTA (Antara): Several Islamic organizations proposed Thursday an independent
anti-corruption commission which based on syariah (Islamic law) in order to speed up
the corruption eradication in the country.
"The commission should be independent like the Corruption Eradication Commission
(KPK), but its action should be based on syariah or Islamic law," said the Indonesian
Mujahidin Council's spokesperson Fauzan Al-ansyari.
Indonesia is a secular country, which does not implement syariah although more than
90 percent of its 220 million inhabitants are Muslims.
Observers have criticized KPK for being too selective in its corruption eradication
drive. (**)
