Pattimura military commander replaced following Ambon
flag-waving incident
JAKARTA (Antara): The Indonesian Military has replaced Maj. Gen Sudarmaidy
Soebandi as chief of the Pattimura XVI regional military command and appointed Maj.
Gen. Rasyid Qurneun Aquary, following the flag-waving incident from a separatist
group in Ambon, Maluku province last month.
The Indonesian Army Chief Air Chief Marshall Djoko Suyanto said Tuesday that the
replacement was a consequence of Sudarmaidy's failure to perform security task.
"Any military member, be it a staffer or a commander, carries the risk of being
replaced if he/she fails to perform his/her duty properly," said Djoko.
"This is what is happening now," he said.
Before being promoted as the new chief of the Pattimura XVI regional military
command, Rasyid was the commandant general of the Army Special Forces
(Kopassus). His earlier post was the commander of the Army Strategic Reserves
Command (Kostrad) Division I. (**)
