MOBILE SUIT

GUNDAM:

THE BATTLE OF ANGELS

DEADEYE

Chapter 6: Chaos from the Skies

"Damn, you’ve gotten better!" Kert said as another shot clipped his Mobile Suit’s shoulder.

"Of course I have." Plague said and dodged out of the way of a barrage from Kert’s machine cannon and made himself scarce behind a rock formation. He quickly pressed a tab on is machine cannon and a spent magazine fell out. Then he got another one from it’s place on his shield and put it in then charged the chamber with a round. Just in time too, because now Kert had gotten atop the rock formation, jumped off, and was now bearing down on him from above. Plague was almost crushed but dodged out of the way yet again, he rocket jumped backward with is jets and drew his beam saber mid air and blocked a slash from Kert who had followed him nearly the second he had taken off.

"Shit, you’re fast!" He said as he desperately fended off strike after strike.

"Nah, I’m goin' easy on you now!" Kert said tauntingly, and it hit right where he wanted it to. Plague began slashing back at Kert and kept up an offense and a defense at the same time. "That’s better!"

"I didn’t get in this thing to entertain you!" Plague said and then saw an opening in Kert’s defense and took it with a quick, savage slash that would’ve easily killed even expert pilots. But the shield arm of Kert’s Leo II shot up and intercepted the blow and the other shot out and punched Plague’s suit in the gut effectively knocking it off balance. Kert charged with his beam saber but rather then defend Plague let his suit fall on it’s back letting Kert simply sail over. Plague got back on balance and fired his shoulder vulcans only to hit Kert’s shield. Shortly there after a controlled burst of machine cannon fire on Kert’s part brought Plague’s Leo II to it’s knees after it knocked out the left lower portion of the leg. In a last move to defend himself Plague brought his shield up but It was too late, Kert swung his beam saber and took off the head of Plague’s suit. "SHIT!"

The cockpit went dark, and then opened up into the battle simulator room. Plague got out and sighed. Kert looked over with a smirk plain on is face.

"I know, it sucks to get beat by a kid." Michael said from his spot at one end of the room by Doctor T. Plague glared an extremely menacing glare at him.

"I oughta kill you right now." He said. Doctor T looked at Michael.

"Congratulations Mike, you’ve just pissed off a Gundam pilot."

"…eep."

Colony L4

"Are our operatives in place?" Tyler asked as he looked over the plan, he’d changed points of it and overall made it a more efficient operation. The basic premise of the plan was to target the mobile suit research and production facilities, and the defensive control areas of each colony. First, defenses would be taken over and the guard of mobile suits at each colony would be eradicated by the automated defenses. After this, a team would infiltrate each mobile suit facility and then it would be an easy task of securing the colonies. There were thousands of operatives, tens of thousands! The operation had been gaining strength for over half a year! All this time they had been selecting operatives, preparing weapons, and making out plans of each and every target. And all this right under the nose of the UESA, it was almost humorous.

"Yes, they will prepare for the operation upon receiving notification."

"Good, just one more thing, I’d like to see the equipment they will be using." Tyler said, Umitsu motioned for Tyler to follow. They headed down into the basement of the building and then approached a locked door.

"Sir!" The guard acknowledged and saluted. Tyler saluted back.

"Carry on." The guard resumed his watch as Umitsu took out a keycard from his pocket and slid it through a slot beside the door. The lights on the slot blinked a few times then the door unlocked with a click. Umitsu opened it and led him in. Tyler looked around, in front of him was a storage room, filled with a few overly large guns.

"Are you sure our operatives will be able to use those at all?" Tyler exclaimed as he motioned toward the weapons. Umitsu looked over at them.

"Don’t worry, those are for the main attack groups on the mobile suit facilities, and the searchers after the operation is finished." He said.

"So your saying half of our operatives are demi-gods?"

"No, over here." Umitsu then walked over and opened another door. Tyler followed before him stood an eight foot tall suit. It slightly resembled a Leo II, except it was thinner. The torso, forearms, and upper legs all looked like a human could fit inside normally, but the forearms and lower legs were longer than normal.

"What the hell is this?"

"It’s a mobile armor. We found blue prints for them hacking through the UESA research files one day and designed our own. It amplifies the user’s strength tenfold, protects him from most anything and can even hold it’s own with a mobile suit should the need arise." Umitsu explained. Tyler walked around the suit, looking it over. "It has an advantage as well, a squad of these can easily take out a mobile suits camera and disable it. We should be able to salvage enemy suits by using these tings on them."

"…niiiice…" He said after a minute "We’ll be able to expect these coming up against us soon. Glad we have our own, they’ve been improved right?"

"Of course." Umitsu said.

"One more thing, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about this."

"About what?"

"You can’t tell me you didn’t do what you did without your own personal gain in mind at some time." Tyler said. Umitsu regarded him not apparently taking any insult to the comment.

"True, part of what I did was for my own personal gain. But a large part of it was because I am dedicated to the cause from which this organization was formed. The UESA can’t tell their head from their asses." Umitsu said truthfully.

"Wisely put." Tyler replied, then looked up at the suit again. "Can they be customized?"

"The armors?"

"Yes."

"Yes they can."

"Good, I’ll be taking one then."

UESA Research Center, Mojave Desert CA

"So, you’re a newtype huh?" Plague asked, Kert nodded, they were going over the data from the simulated fight with Doctor T. Plague was being bombarded with almost unbelievable speed and reaction time on Kert’s part. "Good, I’d hate to get my ass kicked by a regular pilot."

"Plague, could you leave for just a moment?" Doctor T asked.

"Uh, sure, why?"

"I need to talk to Kert for a minute."

"No problem." Plague walked out and shut the door behind him. Doctor T turned to Kert with a grim look on his face, Kert noticed instantly.

"What’s wrong?"

"Well, the meeting with UESA Board of Military Research did not go in the direction I thought it would." Doctor T said. "The UESA, except for that Peacecraft girl, is a genuinely stupid, foolish bunch of people. They can’t look past this pseudo peace they think they are maintaining, and think that highly skilled people such as yourself are a danger even though your intentions are not malevolent. Even when Relena is able to get a word in, she is regarded as some biased pacifist whose opinion does not matter. A lot of people hold you in high regards Kert, they consider you a savior of the Earth equal to the likes of Heero Yuy. However, I’m afraid that today the UESA thinks of you as nothing more than a public relations project, a disposable pr project. They no longer take pride in the fact that you were an effort to save the planet."

"…They want to kill me again don’t they?" He said, no fear in his voice.

"I’m afraid so, and even worse, they want me to do it. Which of course I won’t. Instead of finding ways to utilize Newtypes they want to come up with ways of disabling them, torturing them, and killing them through use of the Newtype brain wave pattern." Doctor T continued, Kert stared at the floor for a couple seconds and then brought his face up.

"Can’t you just say no Doctor T?" He asked. "You’re one of their top researchers, why can’t you have any opinion in the matter?"

"Because Kert it’s simple, the UESA right now owns the world, and they can do whatever they want. Nothing short of war is going to uproot them, and God knows I don’t want that to happen again. But despite anything the UESA can do there will be another one. I know there will." Doctor T replied.

"I think there will be soon, and the stakes will be high, I think." Kert said. Doctor T looked at him oddly.

"What drives you to say this?"

"I dunno if this matters or not, but lately I’ve been having a recurring dream. It’s kind of disturbing actually. In a dark void with nothing but a single sphere the size of a marble in it, two things are fighting. One of them is dark, and when I get near it in my dream I can feel myself trembling. But one of them glowed, and when I got close to it I was certain I was standing with an old friend. But the point was, they were fighting over the sphere. And when I got near it I could hear hundreds of voices crying out. Usually then I woke up with a start." Kert explained. "It might be nothing. But then again with all the stuff that’s been happening to me lately what with the Newtype studies and all I can’t help but feel like it means something." He continued, Doctor T nodded and then walked over and stood by Kert.

"At least we can say the planet is at peace right now." He said with a reassuring hand on Kert’s shoulder.

Steven sat in his chair with his feet up on the table watching the television, it was some news broadcast about some terrorist act or something. Suddenly the pager on his belt started beeping. He flicked a cigarette out of his mouth and then reached down and got the pager off his belt loop then looked at it.

BABYLON

"About God damn time." He said to himself and the set the pager on the table. He got to his feet and opened a locker. Inside it was a bullet proof vest, a helmet, goggles, and backpack, a 9mm tactical pistol with silencer, and several spare clips. He slipped his uniform and gear in the backpack and walked out the door…

Tamati walked slowly among the people on the sidewalk, getting bumped and jostled time after time. Shit, even the colonies were getting overpopulated now. He stopped on the street corner and looked up at a massive warehouse across the street, this colony’s Mobile Suit Facility. He wondered when it would all start, his Mobile Armor, nicknamed ‘Maverick’ was set in his basement waiting to see some action. He then almost jumped as his pager went off in his pocket, and after mouthing ‘you idiot’ to himself he got it out of his pocket. When he saw the message, he looked around, and then walked back the way he had come to his house…

"Only five minutes left…" The guard said and sighed. He’d been on his shift for two hours now, well, almost two hours. After five minutes he could leave and get some lunch. He leaned against the wall to the side of the main entrance and looked up at the artificial ceiling, God he hated guarding the defense facilities. Then he heard footsteps to his left and turned to look to see another guard coming his way.

"Hey Jim, bet your glad to see me." He said, Jim waved.

"Yeah I was getting bored…and hungry." He said humorously. Suddenly a muffled sound could barely be heard at the same moment Jim’s head involuntarily jerked to the side, then he fell limp. The other guard looked to see a blood spatter on the wall and then looked to where it came from. However he suffered a similar fate. Therefore, no one alive and able to report it saw the operative enter the defensive control room.

1000 hours Langrange time

"We’ve been given the go, advance on nearest Mobile Suit Facility and destroy any and all resistance."

The day was quiet, and rather boring to tell the truth. Emily sat on the porch holding her doll thinking of some game to play. She turned her head at the sound of the front door swinging open, her mom stepped out with a glass of juice.

"You look bored dear, can’t you find anything to do?" She asked and handed Emily the juice. She took a sip.

"Mommy, all my friends are all doing stuff."

"Well can’t you find something to do on your ow…what the…" Emily’s mom looked with curiosity at the house across the street. The planks looked like they were giving way to something pushing on the inside. Then suddenly the front of the house burst open. After the dust cleared an eight foot tall robot that looked somewhat like a mobile suit stepped out, it’s camera rested right on her. She was suddenly struck with the urge to sweep her daughter up and rush into the house but the thing waved in an oddly friendly way and ran off down the street. She was left dumbstruck.

The facility was in an uproar, just a few minutes ago one of their prototype mobile armors had lost contact and now they’d been notified that the automated security systems had been taken over. Their last resort was two Leo II’s posted at each end of the facility. They knew an attack was coming, so they were on their toes.

"Anything at your end?" Asked one of the pilots.

"Not a thing, but I have vibration signatures headed your way."

"Yeah I picked them up too, probably infantry, nothing to worry about." He replied, dismissing the potential threat. Then he saw a small green shape about two hundred yards in front of him and closing fast. "Shit, command, is that thing hostile?" He asked, not knowing whether to fire or not. He zoomed in on it. "What the hell? That’s a mobile armor!" He said in disbelief.

"Are you sure L21?" Command asked.

"I’m damn sure! Look at that!" L21 replied.

"Roger on that, L22, there’s nothing approaching you move to front side and set up defensive position!"

"Roger!" L22 said and started moving around the building to the other side.

"Wait there’s more of them!" L21 reported as he saw about five join the first one, after that two more, and then another three, that was eleven armors. "I dunno if we can take them all command!" L21 said grimly.

"Keep them occupied until we can evacuate our personnel and the research archive and then get the hell outta there!" Command ordered.

"Roger, L22 get to the rear and pick off any I miss!"

"Yes sir!" L22 moved to obey, the armors were close now, and now totaled 15. L21 aimed his beam rifle and fired. It almost hit the lead armor but it dodged to the side and continued it’s charge. L21 fired again, this time knocking one off balance near the middle of the group. He continued firing and missing until he hit the lead one. "Got him!…what the hell?!" He exclaimed as he saw the armor simply reel back wards a few steps and fall backwards then get back up on it’s feet.

"L2 unit, those armors are stronger than we thought, hang on we’re having assault weapons sent out to you, evacuation procedures are 45% complete, hold on."

"Will do Command, agh!" L21 grunted as a shot from one of the machine cannons riddled his Leo II and penetrated the armor causing several warning lights to flash. The Leo II he was using wasn’t meant to go up against military class weapons, he was highly outclassed. "L22, hold your position, in a few moments I will fall back to your position, cover me."

"Yes sir!" L22 lifted it’s machine cannon and prepared to fire. L21 discharged the last of it’s beam shells and hit two more, effectively disabling one of them, now they were a scant fifty yards away and closing fast. Once they reached the gate in the outer wall he estimated they would slow down and start shooting. L21 turned around and ran for it’s new position as L22 started firing with the machine cannon, he managed to disable another. L21 shot with it’s shoulder cannons. Just when they were about to reach the gate a truck pulled up with assault class beam rifles and machine cannons along with two shields. The moved back up and started firing and managed to take out three more before they were upon them. They both dropped their weapons and pulled out their beams sabers.

"Evac is 89% complete, just a few more seconds!" Command assured them. L21 swung but the armor just ducked, another one shot at it but only hit the shield and had to stop shooting to dodge a swing from L22.

"Shit, these armors are fast!" L22 swore as he missed another one.

"Use your shoulder cannons, only way we’ll get them!" L21 suggested and then began firing. It didn’t help much. Soon they were both out of ammunition and had fallen back and closed the gates, yet the armors had easily climbed over and were now advancing again. L21 stabbed for one but it dodged to the left and started firing before L21 could bring his shield up to defend himself and his camera was taken out. L22 looked over to see the damage done to his squad mate but for a second too long as his camera was also taken out. They both grabbed the guns out of the compartment behind their seats and jumped out of the cockpits but most of the armors had already gotten in, two were left to detain them.

"Drop your weapons now or we kill you! This colony and all colonies are now under control of the Tenashi Faction!" threatened one of the armor pilots. They both wisely complied…

UESA Research Center, Mojave Desert CA, 1200 hours Lagrange time

"God dammit! I was right to try and wipe out the UESA in the first place!" Plague shouted and slammed his fist into the wall. He had heard the news about Kert’s imminent slow and painful execution.

"Relax Plague, I’m not simply going to let them kill him as a guinea pig." Doctor T replied. "Besides, if I can’t do anything Kert surely can, he’s made it out of bigger scraps than this, much bigger as you so certainly remember!"

"True." Plague said, meanwhile Kert was in Heavy Zero looking over the systems when he looked out and noticed Trowa looking up at his beaten up Heavy Arms. Kert got up and stood on the cockpit hatch.

"Sorry." Kert said, Trowa looked up from the floor of the repair bay.

"For what?" He asked.

"For beating up your Gundam like that." He exclaimed and motioned towards the Heavy Arms. Trowa did not looked back but rather kept his stare on him.

"A warrior shouldn’t apologize for what he’s done." Trowa said flatly and turned around.

"Gah, warrior, you can have all that crap!" Kert said and went back into Heavy Zero.

"What exactly do you mean by that?" Trowa replied just before Kert sat down, he came back out.

"What I mean by that is that I’d rather be a normal kid rather than this newtype Gundam pilot who has a world government hell bent on destroying him! You know, have friends, live somewhere normal! Meet a girl maybe, or at least have a friend that isn’t a former mass murderer! Shit, what the hell am I saying, I’m a Gundam pilot, I have no right to a normal life!" Kert replied in exasperation. Trowa was silent for a moment.

"You’re different." He said.

"What?"

"You’re different from what I thought you’d be, see, I had you pictured like Wufei, or Heero, or me, but you seem to have a personality like Quatre or Duo. I really don’t know how you can train seven years of your life and not end up screwed up like some of us, consider yourself lucky Kert." Trowa said and walked out of the bay, Kert sat back down in the cockpit.

"Lucky, hah!" Kert exclaimed, suddenly the screen he had set to satellite TV went to snow. "What, shit, bad signal!" Kert said and started adjusting a dial below the screen, but then a man appeared onscreen. Kert recognized him immediately, it was Tyler.

"Greeting people of Earth, I am Tyler Maddison, former US representative in the UESA board of Military. I come to you know with a formal declaration of war on the UESA. For those of you that have seen my past exploits and are now laughing at my threats, you may be humbled by the fact that in just four hours, we have ceased control of all colony clusters, and also control the military facilities therein!" Kert’s eyes shot open wide with shock. Back in the rec room Plague and Doctor T were doing the same thing.

"Of course, if you want to avoid another tragic war ultimately leading to the UESA’s demise the aforementioned organization would be wise to fulfill my demand that the UESA must admit defeat and surrender, handing over all government control to the Tenashi Faction. The UESA is not only weak, but riddled with incompetence, and when it hears something of wisdom it only listens to it if it leads to it’s own gain! Something must be done, and we have done it. Until the UESA’s surrender we will attack Earth with our full forces. That is all!" The screen went back to static. Kert sat there in horror. Then he got to his feet and called out to nearby engineer.

"Reload Heavy Zero! On the double!!!"

Above Earth’s atmosphere, the many Leo IIs were being fitted and loaded into shuttles. Weapons were being loaded, soldiers were being prompted, orders were given out. Then the airlocks were depressurized, all at once thousands upon ten thousands of shuttles fully loaded with mobile suits, aircraft, weaponry and mobile armors were deployed from the colonies. The many shuttles created the effect that the stars were all falling straight to Earth. Inside them, soldiers waited in the cockpits of their weapons, eager to battle. That day would always be remembered. For it began the largest war in human history, and after initial fighting was over…

…The UESA was no longer atop it’s throne…

So it has finally begun. The Tenashi Faction has made their first move in the war and all but completely decimated all opponents. As the last defenders of the UESA fight on the people within the as of yet uncaptured UESA Research Center seem to be the last hope. It seems that Kert’s Newtype abilities are about to receive an unscheduled test, but will they be enough? Find out next time on The Battle of Angels…
