UPDATE ON REGISTRATION NUMBERS
East Kings registration occurred the previous weekend at the old
Cornwallis School.
UPDATE ON NOVICE QUICK START REGISTRATION AND
FUNDING
Mike Graves will oversee the fitting of the registrants on 2 set
nights at Cleve's. There were 35 Notice Quick Start registrants through East
Kings and more calls have been received. There were 17 calls received in
relation to the KAMHA. It is anticipated there will be at least 60 children in
the Program.
VALLEY HOUSE LEAGUE, NOVICE TO MIDGET C
Discussions are ongoing in relation to the reestablishment of
the Eastern Valley House League to encompass a valley wide house league at all
levels in Minor Hockey.
UPDATE ON CANNING ARENA
It is anticipated at this point that ice will be ready at the
Canning arena for tryouts on September 20th, 2004. If the ice was ready, the
Pee Wees would have their Checking Clinic on September 19th, 2004 in the
Canning arena. This will result in the Conditioning Camps being more stream
lined. The charge for 8 sessions is $60.00 and players will either attend
Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday for their hour Conditioning Camp.
Players will divided alphabetically. West Hants will be included in the same
time slot. Paul Murphy and Will Brown will conduct the Checking Camp together.
The PeeWee coaches will be on the ice and working various stations.
HOCKEY SCHOOL IN EAST KINGS
This will be run by Robin Foley at a cost of $65.00 for 8
one-hour sessions. This hockey school is for younger and House League
players.
FEMALE TRYOUTS
Because of the numbers registered for female teams, there will
be no official try outs. However, the female team coaches have requested
accessibility to ice time.
BANTAM AAA
David Keith resigned as the President of the Mainland Bantam
League as a result of Terry Beck's insistence that our team become part of that
league. Randy Hussey of West Hants advised that approximately 68 Bantams are
currently registered and also advised that he felt they did not have enough
numbers to form a AAA team.
WEST HANTS ATOM NUMBERS
Randy Hussey of West Hants reported that there were 40-50 Atoms
already registered in West Hants which were significantly up from last year.
There was a possibility of a Atom AAA team being run out of West Hants.
DIRECTOR'S LIABILITY INSURANCE
Mike Graves reported that because of the amalgamation, he
believed that the new Association was covered under KAMHA's insurance policy.
Lynn advised that from her perspective without having looked at the policy,
they clearly could not be the case. Mike Graves advised that he would ask
Randall Balcome, secretary for KAMHA, to contact the insurers and advise.
BLUE/WHITE GAME
Mike Graves and Ed Sherman are looking after the chuck-a-puck.
Shelley Jeffrey is organizing the 50/50. Dave Upton was looking after the
printing of the tickets. Lynn is covering advertising and promotion. Sherry
Benjamin is handling door prizes and ordering ball caps for sale.
DEVELOPMENT WEEKEND
Provincial Hockey Development weekend is scheduled for November
13th and 14th, 2004. Darren Booth will be running a Trainer's Program.
MIDGET AAA AND HIGHSCHOOL ISSUES
There is a lengthy debate on how to resolve the conflict between
Midget AAA Tryouts and the High school Tryouts. The board unanimously agreed to
the following course of action:
- Brian will contact the Highschool coaches to set up a meeting
and ask if they could make their decisions concerning their team in advance of
the conclusion of our try out process;
- The Board will advise all Midget players that in order to be
registered to play with the Association, they must be evaluated as part of our
tryout process and communicate this in writing to the parents;
- The Board will post this requirement to register and try out
on our Web Site;
- The Board will accept last minute Midget registrations
immediately before the try outs commence.
Motion by Sheila Bower-Jacquard. That in relation to any player
who ceases playing, their registration fees shall be returned on a pro rata
basis based on a 20 week season. Motion seconded by Brian and passed
unanimously.
Sheila will prepare a letter and pass it out at registration for
Midget players. Further, $50.00 of the registration fee for Midgets is
non-refundable. It covers insurance.
OTHER
The on-ice instruction for the on-ice evaluators is scheduled
for next Thursday night from 7:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at Acadia University. Coach
Burns will review the drills and go through the process with the lead on-ice
evaluator, and on-ice evaluators. A lust of 40 names has been compiled and the
Division Managers will make contact with potential on-ice and off-ice
evaluators.
A discussion occurred over an individual who had applied for a
coaching position was turned down and was seeking a response. Dave Duncan would
write with the appropriate response.
Meeting adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
LYNN M. CONNORS
Secretary
