ACADIA MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Meeting
Wednesday, September 15th, 2004

Present: Dave Duncan, Harold Fisher, Dave Upton, Brian Rhodenizer, Ed Sherman, Larry Rodrigues, John Currie, Paul Murphy, Carrie Hemmings, Doug Eaton, Mike Graves, Sheila Bower-Jacquard, Lynn Connors, Scott Bigelow

The Minutes for the previous meeting were approved.

UPDATE ON REGISTRATION TRYOUTS and REGISTRATION

Numbers are currently at 609. There are 40 unsigned Midgets, 11 of which are females. There are 10 females in each other division. Once registration is completed, it is anticipated that there will be a total of 704 players. In relation to the Novice Quick Start Program, there is approximately 100 registered with an even spread of between 5, 6 and 7 year old players. There are 93 Atoms, 13 of whom are female, 129 Pee Wees, 14 of whom are female, 113 Bantam, 13 of whom are female, 91 Midgets, 13 of whom are female.

CHUCK-A-PUCK AT ACADIA

Eric Cederberg advised that our Association can work the 6 Friday night game chuck-a-pucks and receive the proceeds. There is approximately $500.00 per night in proceeds from chuck-a-puck.

EVALUATION FOR TRY OUTS

Coach Burns is running the on-ice session for the on-ice evaluators. The off-ice evaluators are meeting with Coach Burns on Sunday to review the drills and what to look for. Pee Wee evaluators are Peter Baldwin as lead evaluator, Roger Creaser, Ian Mosher, Dave Upton and Glen Petrie. Midget on-ice evaluators are Scott Barkhouse, Bruce Danderan, Scott Trimper, Craig Murphy and Dave White. The Bantam on-ice evaluators are Jack Schofield as lead evaluator, Steve Price, Jim Rose, John Hardacker, Craig Newcombe, Jim Kenny and Cam Pongoski. Goal tender evaluators are Mike MacMillan, Ken Sewards plus two from Acadia, Andy Brown, Mark Goodwin, Matt Walker. The Bantam Midget evaluators are listed potential being Doug Eaton, Gun Smith, Archie Seamone, Roy Brown, Greg Allen plus the two coaches. The Pee Wee on-ice evaluators are Paul Getson as lead evaluator, Kim Troup, Erin Warren, John MacLeod, Mike Ward, Laurie Dauphinee, Bob Harnam, Paul Ross. The Division Coordinators will be present during try outs. There is a lengthy discussion about rink etiquette at try outs. Lead evaluators are meeting Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Wolfville room at the Acadia Arena with Coach Burns.

The Checking Clinic will occur that same day with the classroom session in the Wolfville Room at 11:00 and the 2 hour on-ice session running from 12:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Lead evaluator and individual evaluators will gather and tabulate their scores after each tryout which will be maintained in file folders which will be left at the rink under lock and key. The players going to the house league will be notified by the Division Coordinator. Each player will be entitled to receive a copy of their final cumulative score and the cut off score for the team they wanted to make. Any request for a scores must be made in writing and the final cumulative score and cut off score will be delivered 48 hours upon the written request being received.

BANTAM AAA

The Mainland League is in the process of organizing for the season. West Hants' decision must be made by Saturday, September 25th, 2004.

COACHING DEVELOPMENT

Paul Murphy advised that all coaches require Development 1 to coach and if you already have an intermediate coaching certificate you are grandfathered. The Development 1 Coach Program will be offered this year and the Development 2 program will be offered next year by Hockey Nova Scotia. In order to coach Midget AAA or above, you must have Development 1 and 2 and have competed at a certain level. Development 1 and 2 authorizes you to coach at any level in Minor Hockey except Midget AAA. Each Association is expected to develop a mentoring program to assist lower level coaches.

50/50

Dave Deacon reported that 50/50 draws will occur on air at AVR/Magic 94.9.

UPDATE ON MIDGETS

Brian reported that he will attempt to set a meeting with NEKEC and Horton Coaches for later that week. Again, it will be reconfirmed to parents that if players are not registered and are not evaluated they cannot play in the Midget Program. Midget coaches will call all past and present Midget players to advise and all those with e-mail addresses will receive e-mail notification.
