CHINESE PULSE DIAGNOSIS

Chinese diagnosis are based on physical examination and pulse readings. In the same way as in the siddha, ayurvedic system of indian medicine nadi shastra was very helpful in diagnosis as well as in prediction of curing disease. Acupunturist used to warn the patient of his coming illness and used to protect him from the same by balancing the imbalancing energy. Energy cann't be measured. It can be palpated at the wrist.Palpation and interpertation of the pulse and from that judging the imbalance in the energy is called pulse diagnosis.Precipitate expression of rhythmic flow of the body energy is the basis of pulse diagnosis. Condition and activity of the organ can be judged by the pulse diagnosis. The diagnosis necessary for acupunture and especially for the regulation of the energy according to the law of five elements.

The chinese distinguish between the right and left pulse and three different position on the wrist. Thus there are total six different locations upon two wrist. At each wrist there are following locations.

  1. Kuan (styloid)
This is at the level of styloid process of radius (Kuan means styloid process). It is Kuan's central position, middle finger should be kept at the styloid process.
  2. Tsun (thumb)
It is distal to the styloid process and is separated from Kuan by the width of the one finger,Index finger should be kept on it.
  3. Ch'in (fore arm)
It is proximal to the styloid process and is seperated from Kuan by the width of one finger, ring finger should be kept on it.

The rational energy is palpated superfically and lightly on the surface and then palpated deeply with considerable pressure by the finger tips at each of these six position. Superficial pulse are Fu pulses or Yang pulses which represent Fu or Yang organs. The feel of superficial pulse are like a chip of wood flowing over the water and that of deep pulses are like a stone thrown into the water.

TWELVE PULSE ON THE WRISRT
Left Hand Deep Superficial
  Tsun     Heart     Small Intestine
  Kuan     Liver     Gall Bladder
  Ch in     Kidney     Urinary Bladder
Right Hand
  Tsun    Lung     Large Intestine
  Kuan   Spleen     Stomach
  Cn in   Pericardium     Triple Warmer

The meridians and organs represented by the pulse of the same position on both the wrist are thought to obey the law that the left wrist meridian dominates the right one.Pulse diagnosis does not only indicate the health of the person as a whole but that of individual organ seprately. It indicates whwther the organ is having excess or deficient energy, i.e whether hte organ is hyperactive or hypoactive. It is also indicates whether the polarity predominence is in proper position.
