Aragorn
"Then more than any kind of Men he appeared, and seemed rather an Elf-lord from the Isles of the West."
Here's Doug as Aragorn.  Of all the costumes I did, this is the one I'm most disappointed with, simply because I would have liked to do SO much more to it, but didn't have the time.  This doesn't do justice to Aragorn's Ranger outfit, not by a long shot, but it was recognizable enough that other people at the cinema knew who he was, and on such short notice, I guess that's what matters.

The cloak was made from a greyish-green microfiber.  It was made from the same semicircular pattern I used to make the Lorien cloaks for Merry and Pippin.  I made the hood by cutting a rectangle along a fold, sewing up the top edge, and gathering it onto the neckline.  Worked surprisingly well.  The clasp is a hidden hook-and-eye.

The jerkin, which Doug is wearing OVER the duster instead of under it, because he "liked it better that way," was made of a dark brown vinyl.  I didn't use a pattern, just kind of held the vinyl up to him and marked it with a few pins.  The four ties across the chest and the lacing down the sides were done with brown leather lace from Wal-Mart which, for some reason, looks yellow in this photo.

The duster is made of a lightweight black denim.  I started off planning to use the tunic pattern in Simplicity 9887 as my guide, but threw it out the window pretty quickly and just kinda pieced the thing together myself.  I was planning on putting black leather lacing over all the seams, but didn't have time.
The shirt was purchased at a salvage shop and dyed light blue.

The pants are his own faded black work pants, probably stained at this point as he had closed the night of the movie.

There's a belt under there somewhere too, made of a woven cording dyed dark brown and attached to a silver buckle.  Who knows where though?  I included a diagram detailing how to wear the layers with his costume, but he ignored it shamelessly.

The gloves were weight-lifting gloves purchased at Wal-Mart for around $4.  He's only wearing one there, I forget why, giving him a strange Michael-Jackson-of-the-Dunedain look that I find more than a little disturbing.

And, as a final touch, Essay lent him her Evenstar pendant.
