This is Melanie as Arwen. Actually, she's only "Arwen" because everyone saw the pointy ears and dark hair and assumed that's who she was trying to be. Since her dress actually looked a bit like Arwen's Arch dress, we went with it. After a while, it was easier to just agree than to try to explain that she was really just going for "generic Elf."
The dress was a Halloween costume, being marketed as a medieval gown of some sort, that Melanie bought at Wal-Mart. It's made of a dark teal crushed panne, and came with a cheesy trim "belt" that attached on the sides and tied in the front. Melanie removed it, and bought some gold trim that she unraveled and made into the obi-like sash seen here. All I really did on this dress was cut the high neckline into the scoop, but she looked so pretty in it that I wanted to post pictures.
The ears are Woochie small space ear tips, applied with spirit gum, blended with make-up, and disguised a bit with a strategically placed bit of hair. |

Here's Melanie with her husband Gandalf...er, Shawn, at the Outback before the show. You can see the ears really nicely here. The apparently looked so real that a guy sitting near us stopped at our table on his way out, asked us if we were Madrigals (no...), and told Mela that her ears "really freaked him out." Real oddball, that one. |
