In October of 2003, I had the bars removed.  By that time, they were supposed to have done their job.  My sternum should have been firmly and permanently repositioned.  Unfortunately, after the bars were removed, my sternum sank back in a little right away, and in the following months it has continued to sink further.  Now, in January 2004, the dent is almost as deep as it was originally.  I will soon post more pictures here of both the bars and my new-old chest.

The moral of the story: it is not clear that a Nuss operation is appropriate for adults whose chests are less flexible than the chests of children.  I wish I had never done it.
