From the Brussels American School Beacon (weelkly newsletter)

Principal's Message

It is with the deepest regret that I inform you of the death of Ms. Jacquelin J. Johnson.  Jackie passed on the morning of December 15, 1999.  She suffered from a lingering illness.  Ms. Johnson taught Business at BAS since 1986, and BAS was her only teaching assignment with the DoDDS schools.  The Brussels American School community was indeed fortunate to have Ms. Johnson as a part of our profesional staff.  Jackie taught a wide range of classes in a Business Laboratory setting, and at one time or another, almost all high school students took at least on class from Ms. Johnson.  She sponsored the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and made this activity one of the sterling programs at our school.  Through Jackie's leadership, BAS students are able to represent themselves and their school at both the regional and international FBLA levels.  The pride our students take in FBLA can be directly attributed to Ms. Jacquelin J. Johnson.  During her tenure at BAS, Jackie also worked with the Senior and Junior classes, the Sunshine Committee, School Improvement, and PTSO.  Jackie was always there for the Students and the School.  BAS will miss Ms. Johnson.  Our prayers go out to her husband Jean in this time of grief.  A brief memorial service will be held for Ms. Johnson tomorrow (Thursday, 16 Dec 99) from 1530-1600 in the MPR of the school.  After school activities, including athletic practices, are canceled tomorrow afternoon.
