The School System |
The first thing you need to do if your child's behavior is affecting the classsroom, is request an IEP ( Individual Essessment Program). Requesting this in writing allows you to prove when the request was made ( assuming you've kept a copy of the letter) and makes sure the assessment is given to your child in a timely manner. Most states require that an evaluation be completed within a specified time, which may be as long as 30 working days. The timeline begins once you have signed the districts permission form. Date:__________ To:_________________ ____________________ ____________________ Dear_______________________ I am the parent of_________________, who is currently not enrolled / enrolled in school. I am writing to make a referral for assessment for special education services for my child _______________. He/She may be eligible for special education assistance. I am requesting that _________ be given a comprehensive assessment by the school district and that an IEP meeting be scheduled for him/her. As part of the assessment process, I also request that my child be assessed under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 to determine whether he/she should be identified as "handicapped" pursuant to that law and to determine what, if any, accomodations might be required in his/her educational program in the event that he/she does not qualify for special education services or in addition to special eduation services. This is also to request that the Unified School District's Section 504 Coordinator be present at the IEP meeting to discuss the results and recommendations of the section 504 assessment. I look forward to receiving an assessment plan within 15 days. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in this matter. Sincerely, |
Some teachers question whether it is fair to provide extra support for individual students. It is important as parents to understand that being FAIR does not mean being the same. Being fair means providing each student with what he or she needs to achieve success. Also, you can request (during your IEP meeting) that your child have a personal aid assigned to him during class. This may help in keeping the child focused on his work and provide one on one help when needed. |
Now that you've been given the school form and the behaviors many of you know so well...I will take you to The Therapy Program which was designed for problem children and exhausted parents!! |

UPDATE...The school IEP can take up to 40 school days ( not including snow days). If the school system exceeds 40 days you then have the right to file a Civil Suit Violation and the state will provide you with a Pro-Bono Lawyer (free). This is in direct correlation with the 4th and 14th Ammendments....any questions???...Ask Mr. ADHD........... |
