Lesson Segment # 4

Objective: Have students patching pitch and using a singing voice.

Materials: Piano

            Song:  “Big High Hill”

Prior Knowledge and Experience: Students know the difference between high notes and low notes. Select students know this song.

Procedure:      -Have students sit in circle on floor facing front of room

-Have them sing the song echoing teacher

                        - Sing all the way through song with teacher echoing the “hoo-hoo”

                        - Teach students hand signals for parts of the song

                        - Have all students close eyes choose one to go to back of the room. Then have class sing the song and have the student in the back of the room do the echoing of “Hoo-hoo”

-Allow student who sang “hoo-hoo” to choose the next person

Indicators of success: Students sing relatively well on pitch. Try to use their singing voice. Enjoy the game and are excited to be chosen to sing alone.

Follow up:

I felt my lesson went pretty well for not really having any time top prepare mentally.  I feel everyone sang well, and was able to guess who was the echo in the back of the room. That shows they can recognize the difference in each others voices.
