Lesson Segment # 3

 

 

Shortnin' Bread

Objective: Have Class sing and Play "Shortnin Bread."


Materials: Recorder; "Shortin Bread" From "It's Recorder time" Suzuki Book

Prior Knowledge and Experience:
-Student know all the notes needed for song
-Student know what rests are
-Students understand rhythmic notation

Procedure:
-Review fingerings
-Review note values and break down of quarter notes
-Have them play Shortnin Bread (fixing any major mistakes that are made)
-Sing Shortnin Break, echoing the teacher to learn rhythm and pitch
-Break into two groups, have one group sing, and the other group play Shortnin Bread

Indicators of Success:

-Students enjoy lesson
-Sing particularly well on pitch
-Play notes and rhythms correct on recorder

 

Follow-up:        -Have students sing through song first

                        -Allow them the chance to pick partners, and then alternate the singing and playing in each group of two.
