Nominal Connotation: 'Megumi' means 'blessing'. 'Kurogane' connotes "Iron".
Colors: Megumi’s gate color is peppermint green, symbol of both envy and hope.
Wardrobe: Megumi, for some reason, wears long-sleeved Tategami uniforms, unlike any of her contemporaries. She was also seen wearing the maroon gym class uniform and sweats.
Distinguishing marks: Megumi wears no-grade glasses so she’ll look smart. She has a mole just below her left eye, connoted as the pathway of tears-unrequited love.
Megumi was already a Tategami student when her gate abilities surfaced. Her rival Ruriko was about to be killed by the invader, Fukuoka-their history teacher when she shielded Ruriko and herself from the humanoid. Although she was greatly affected by the loss of Mr. Fukuoka, the one person who understood and appreciated her, she joined the Gatekeepers to prove herself as better than Ruriko. She proved herself a grate defensive force for the group for a long time before she discovered that their classmate, Reiji Kageyama, was the evil gatekeeper, who then lured her in to get to Ruriko. She then manifested a second gate, the Gate of Dark Heart, an opposite gate. Megumi was never fully evil, as she used both gates at the same time, in conjunction with each other. After her plot against Ruriko failed, she was mortified for her deeds and ultimately gave up. She even covered the unconscious Ruriko as the invaders were sucked into the vortex at the final battle.
Megumi is deeply interested in public speaking, but more on criticizing it than actively participating. She is also appreciative of vintage anything and politics, though she didn’t actively join Reiji’s society as she is very anti-social. She never wastes opportunities to prove herself and put down those who don’t measure up. Deep inside, all Megumi really longs for is understanding and appreciation, which is what lure her to Kageyama in the first place.
Notes on Megumi: Megumi Kurogane is based on the game character Misao Sakimori from the game. She retains her looks, gate abilities and demeanor. However, Misao never turned against the GK in the anime, which is probably the reason why they created Megumi for the anime in the first place.. |
