The Atlanta Trip

This past October, my friend Diona and I went to Atlanta to see the Indigo Girls play at a benefit concert at Centennial Park. We also went to see Van Gogh's "Starry Night", which was on special display at the High Museum of Art. The following photos are some that I took during the trip. Hope you like them.

This is D driving her Jeep on the way to Atlanta. I took this photo because I had noticed the way the light from the setting sun hit her face. This was not the first time I had noticed this effect, and since I had first taken note of it, I wanted to catch it on film. I think this came out rather nicely.

This photo is one I took at our campsite at Stone Mountain, GA. That's the mountain there in the background. Our tent was placed at the edge of the lake you see in the foreground, and we oriented the tent so the mountain was the first thing we saw when we woke up in the AM. I could think of worse things to wake up to, and few better.

We headed out for Atlanta after we woke up that Saturday morning. We ended up parking outside of Atlanta and taking the MARTA line (Atlanta's version of the subway) into the city. It was Diona's first time riding on an underground train. At one of our stops, I noticed this orange tiled wall, and got D to pose in front of it. She in turn took a photo of me.

We finally got to the concert and made our way around the downtown area. One of the places I wanted to see was the CNN building. Unfortunately, try as we might, we just couldn't find it. Luckily we were able to sustain ourselves through the journey by stopping and reviving ourselves at this giant salt lick. Special thanks to the police officer who offered to take us downtown as Diona was taking this photo. We politely declined and went on our way. Wish we could have found CNN, though. :)

After waiting through several acts for the Indigo Girls to show up, we decided to go and see "Starry Night". When we got to the High, the line to see the work was a half-hour long. It was well worth it though. If you've never seen a van Gogh work up close, please go to the nearest art museum housing one and see it! I didn't get a photo of it, but check out this pic of a sculpture Diona and I found very interesting. Unfortunately I can't think of the name of it. IF I can think of the name of it, I'll let you know.

The concert itself was fantastic. I had never seen the Indigo Girls in concert before, although I had been a fan of their music for some time. They played several songs I knew by heart, and some I had never heard, but danced to all the same. This is a shot I took of the stage while they were performing. That's them with the guitars! lol The person in black onstage with them is Michele Malone, another great singer/songwriter. I don't know who the dude onstage with them is. I think he made the sculpture above. Kidding!

In any case, Diona and I had a blast that weekend. Here are some miscellaneous photos from the trip.
