This sailing
hydrofoil was intended to be the back-up design for Dennis Connor in the Kiwi's ill-fated
1988 challenge for the America's Cup, in case Dennis' "Stars and Stripes"
catamaran didn't prove fast enough.
The full-sized version of this foiler was to be approx 25ft LOA. While that was
never built, a RC model was actually constructed and tested. According to one of
it's designers, while "it was interesting to watch...it never worked too well due to
the fact that at scale the local Reynolds numbers were too low to get the flow to attach
properly".
