Model Flying Machines

Mozhaiskii
Monoplane

This scale model was built by Tim Hayward-Brown of Adelaide, Australia.

"In 1993 I built a Pistachio (8 inch span) model of the Mozhaiskii 1884 steam-powered monoplane and sent it by mail to compete in the Nagoya Nuts Postal competition. It was proxy flown by the late Shoichi Uchida and achieved times of 30 and 40 seconds and eventually placed about 6th.

The photos show the model as on its arrival in Japan, its container and sitting among the other contestants. The model is based on the patent drawing - but other sketches and info I've seen since indicate that the rear props were probably 'mid-wing' rather than right on the trailing edge..."
