There have been three microyachts of note
that have set out to cross the Tasman.

SEA EGG - 1973

This 12ft sloop was sailed by John Riding, attempting an E-W crossing. Although he had already sailed half way around the world in the Sea Egg, the Tasman managed to get the better of John Riding and he was eventually declared lost at sea. Click here for more info etc.

G'DAY 88 - 1988

Designed, built and sailed by Ashley Coulston, this 8ft yacht is the smallest ever to sail the Tasman. The initial W-E crossing ended with the yacht being abandoned, but it was recovered several months later and refurbished in order to complete a successful E-W crossing. Click here for more info.

SWIRLY WORLD - 1994

Kiwi rock star Andrew Fagan used this 17ft 6in yacht to make a double crossing of the Tasman. The E-W leg was done in 1994 as part of an organised Trans-Tasman race, the W-E leg occurring several months later. Click here for more info.
