Richard Pearse
Centenary of Flight
| On top of one of the display stands was this large quarter scale model of the Otto Lilienthal's glider. Again the work of Hamish Cameron, this model was made of willow, just like the original. Otto's sister, Marie, emigrated to New Zealand and was
actually living just south of Timaru at the same time as Richard Pearse was tinkering with his
plane, just a short distance away. There's no evidence that they ever knew
      of each other.   |
