Richard Pearse
Centenary of Flight

And is this the end?

Well, no. The following day, April 1st 2003, the MOTAT people had another attempt to fly. This time the weather was nice and calm. According to the person piloting, their aircraft did manage to get "air under its wheels" but the flight was very brief, due to the end of the runway coming up at a quick rate.

Believable? Not really. This "take-off" wasn't reported for several days. No flight distances were quoted, no photos printed. Even author Geoffrey Rodliffe, the driving force behind the MOTAT replica, fails to make mention of it, when he later wrote about the Waitohi re-enactment.
