Ithamer Williams Brown

1852-1942

Ithamer Williams Brown, son of John and Sarah Brown, was born in Hyland Co., Ohio, March 22, 1852 and passed away at the Western Old Peoples home, Cedar Falls, Ia., October 5, 1942 at the age of 90 yrs. 6 months, 12 days. He came to Iowa with his brother, Lancelot and brother-in-law, Carr Campbell in a covered wagon in the fall of 1877. He worked for Jim Hulbert that winter and in the spring he and his father rented a place and lived there 10 years. He then bought the farm known as the Brown farm, southwest of Avondale. Ithamer was next oldest of 8 children all but the youngest sister, Mrs. Nellie McKinley have preceded him in death. He was married to Rosa Lowe, October 10, 1910, she also preceded him in death. In Dec. 1913 he moved to Anita, then to Ohio and in 1927 he entered the home and remained there until death. Ithamer will be remembered to the Avondale people as always active in church work and of a kindly nature.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Nellie McKinley of Iowa City and sister-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Brown, also a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at Avondale Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. England. Music for the service was sung by Mrs. Delvian Stuva and Wilma Ahnen. Mrs. Geo. Buckner was accompianist.

Pallbearers were grand nephews Wesley Campbell, Ven Louk, Joe Campbell, John McKinley, Bill Ahnen and Wilbur Steward.
