John J. Burg

FONTANELLE, OCT 20, 1949 Funeral services for John J. Burg, long time resident of the Fontanelle community, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Ewing Funeral Home in Fontanelle and were conducted by the Rev. C. A. Hughes of the Congregational church.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Claude Sivadge and Mrs. Floyd Purdy, with Mrs. R. O. Bailey at the piano. Casket bearers were Mart Kordick, Frank Kordick, Edwin Kordick, Charles Kordick, John P. Burg and Jake Lambi. Burial was in the Fontanelle cemetery.

John J. Burg, son of the late Adam Burg and Louisa Burg, of Greenfield, Iowa, was born at Walnut, Iowa, March 9, 1880, and passed away early Monday morning October 10, 1949, at the home of his daughter Mrs. Harry Ruth, where he had made his home since last spring. He had attained the age of 69 years, 7 months, and one day. The last two years he had been in failing health.

He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Keisel on March 8, 1907. To this union were born five sons and two daughters. His wife preceded him in death on April 29, 1936. Earlier in life, a brother Frank and a sister, Martha Fritz, preceded him in death also.

He spent the most of all his married life farming in this vicinity. After losing his arm in an accident he moved to Fontanelle, and lived there until he moved to Greenfield last spring.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his aged mother (93) Mrs. Louisa Burg, two daughters, Mrs. Harry Ruth and Mrs. Henry Marckmann, of Greenfield; five sons, Leo of Orient, Ivan of Des Moines, Melvin of Fontanelle, Leonard and Dean of Greenfield; four grandchildren, four brothers, Conrad of Nevinville, Will of Chicago, Ill., Joe of Greenfield, and Roy of Fontanelle; also four sisters Anna Bellinghausen of New Kirk, OK, Minnie Hall of Des Moines, Mary Diers of Orient, and Lena Kriens of Fontanelle, many nieces and nephews also a host of friends.
