Lena W. Westphal Heyn 1876-1947
BRIDGEWATER, AUGUST 14 -- Mrs. Lena W. Westphal Heyn, daughter of Frederick and Fredericka Westphal, was born near Osega, Illinois, May 26, 1876 and departed this life at the University hospital at Iowa City on Saturday, August 2 (1947) at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 7 days.
She came with her parents to Iowa when but a small child and the family came to Cass county where she grew to young womanhod. On March 21, 1900, she married Mr. Juliius Heyn and the couple made their home on farms in Cass and Adair counties until Mr. Heyn passed away in 1935 at the home just south of Bridgewater.
The couple were the parents of five children, all of whom survive their parents. They are; Mrs. Bernice Garside of Massena, Mrs. Viola Michaelson of Plattsmounth, Nebr., Mrs. Marie Thornton of Monroe, Wisconsin, Mrs. Charlotte Thompson of Bridgewater, Fred A. of Bridgewater, and Julius of Juda, Wisconsin. There are ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. She leaves three brothers Fred Westphal of Fontanelle, Ernest Westphal of Atlantic and Otto Westphal of Corning and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Eddy and Mrs. Rosa Haynes of Greenfield and many more relatives and friends.
Mrs. Heyn became a member of the methodist church in early life and held fast to that faith until the time of her death. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Bridgewater Tuesday afternoon, August 5 at 2 o'clock. The pastor, Rev. H. D. Butts, had charge of the services. The music was furnished by a mexed quartette composed of Mrs. Harvey Gipple, Mrs. E. W. Glade, Paul Pote and Elto Williams, who sang "In The Sweet Bye and Bye," "In The Garden" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The accompaniments were played on the piano by Mrs. G. L. Campbell.
The pallbeareres were; Ervin Westphal, Hiram Wyllie, Herman Rechtenbach, Glenn Westphal, Otis Westphal and Don Campbell, all nephews of the deceased.
The burial was made beside her husband in the Massena cemetery northeast of Massena.
Many relatives from Atlantic, Massena, Fontanelle, Greenfield and Corning were present to attend the services. We extend sympathy to this bereaved family.
