WHAT DOES THE PSA DO?
The PSA stands for “Parent School Association”. Its main purpose is to develop a continuing channel of communications between parents and the school administration and faculty. In order to do this, the PSA:
- Acts as a link between parents and faculty
- Provides social venues where parents, students, and teachers can interact
- Provides venues for the expression of views on matters of general interest
- Provides services in support of school activities
- Represents views of parents at its monthly meeting with the Director and the Board of Governors
- Contributes to the school newspaper
HOW DO I JOIN?
You are automatically members of the PSA. This is your organization. You can decide how active or passive a member you wish to be.
HOW IS THE PSA ORGANIZED?
The PSA has three Committees, one each for the Elementary, Middle, and High schools. The PSA has the flexibility to work as one group to plan all-school events and to break into school-based committees to deal with individual school issues and events. Committee members’ roles include being a liaison to the administration, organizing events, welcoming new parents and contributing to the monthly newsletter. The Committees welcome your input and participation.
WHERE CAN YOU FIND US?
You may email us at psa@aes.ac.in. Someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Physically, the PSA Lounge is down the corridor from the ES Library and is open during school hours. We have a wide range of school publications and documents available in addition to tea and coffee making facilities. The Lounge extension number is #3194.
HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON?
- Check the AES & PSA Websites (http://aes.ac.in, http://aes.ac.in/psa). You will be receiving emails from the school on a regular basis, however, the websites will contain all current news and past news that you may have missed. Please take the time to read transmissions to see if there is something that could apply to you.
- The AES Activities Calendar is distributed at the beginning of the school year, along with monthly updates.
- Each month the school will send you a communication that will advise you of news located on the AES website.
- Keep an eye on what your children bring home from school. Flyers may be send out fro time to time giving updated and/or specific information about events, meetings, sign-ups, etc.
- An Elementary or joint Middle and High School Parent Handbook is distributed to parents at the start of the year and aims to answer all your school related questions.
- Bulletin Boards are situated around the school. In addition, the PSA has a bulletin board for each school (ES-at the Falcon Kiosk; MS-inside the MS entrance; HS-outside HS office). The community boards near the Kiosk and in the hall outside the PSA Lounge are for parents’ use. Ads by real estate agents or retail outlets are prohibited unless the property or entity is owned by a member of the Parent School Association. Ads posted by parents may be removed after a period of 30 days and can be put up again if desired. Parents may email us their for sale and want ads; we will include them on our website at “Classifieds”.
HOW DO I FIND OUT MORE?
School Coffees
Each school holds coffee meetings where parents are incited to meet other parents, faculty and PSAQ representatives. Individual school principals usually organize a program of interest to parents as well as allocate time for discussion of any issues that may arise. In the past we have had talks on study skills, school trips, and homework problems. New ideas for discussion are always welcome. Times of these coffees vary, so check the website and read the emails send to you by the school.
All School PSA Meetings
These are held on the third Thursday of each month at 8:40 a.m. in the Board room and are open to all parents. Time is given at the start of the meeting for issues raised from the floor, followed by PSA business.
HOW DO I BECOME MORE INVOLVED?
Participation at the Coffees and PSA meetings is a good start, if only to meet new faces. Suggestions and ideas are always welcome. If you have a child in Elementary School, you might enjoy being a Room Parent for your child’s class. There is a ‘Guide to Being a Room Parent’ on the PSA website or a hard copy in the Lounge.
We also need active committee members for the daily running of the PSA. From time to time there may be a vacancy for a School Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Board Rep, Curriculum Council Rep, Events Coordinator, Webmaster, or Welcome Committee Rep. If you would like to help, please let us know you are willing. Volunteers are always needed to plan, organize, pool resources, decorate, etc. Sign up for specific upcoming events in the Lounge or email us at psa@aes.ac.in. Check our website for job descriptions and a description of events.
WHO DO I CONTACT IF I HAVE A CONCERN?
Obviously, your teacher and/or Principal would be a good place to start. However, the Chairs of each school (Elementary, Middle, and High) or any member of the PSA committees are happy to hear from you. Our website contains a link to the current year’s Committee Members list.
Your PSA representatives will be able to follow a number of channels when dealing with your concerns. Often these can be immediately resolved if brought up at the Parent Coffees, as the school principals are present to address your concerns.
The PSA representatives regularly meet with the school principals to discuss matters relating to each particular school. Additionally, PSA representatives meet monthly with the Director. Pertinent information is always brought back to the parents at the regular PSA monthly meeting or by individual email.
