Donkeys are nice people. The expanding road system threatens their traditional role but they continue to pop up everywhere, doing our work and keeping us amused. (For a closer look click on the photo.)

If you have to stand around with your legs hobbled, you may as well have Hrisopigi Monastery to contemplate.


The wooden saddle is designed to carry loads on either side. This well-cared-for old lady, lent to me by the owner of Vathi's olive press to transport my olives (it's a long story), very patiently waited for me to pick the right way at each fork in the path before agreeing to move on.



You never know when you're going to come face to face (or tail) with one of these critters - that's clearly what they're thinking.
