To end the violations of adult adoptee civil rights, which were enacted by the Arkansas State Legislature effective in 1947, and to ensure that the current legislated provisions for information exchange between adoption triad members are followed by the Department of Human Services and the various adoption agencies around the state. Specifically, AFAR members seek the following: a.) to restore the ability of adults who were adopted in Arkansas to obtain a copy of their unaltered ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE. We do not support compromises to this effort which would allow birth parents a veto disclosure of their names on the birth certificate, or to a veto contact by placing the adult adoptee under a restraining order without show of cause (contact veto system) and will directly campaign against such compromises. b.)to ensure that the Department of Human Services and other adoption agencies in Arkansas are complying with Arkansas laws regarding provisions of non-identifying information to adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents. c.)to ensure that the Department of Human Services and other adoption agencies in Arkansas are honoring confidentiality waivers filed by members of the adoption triad, as described in the Arkansas Adoption Code. |
