FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
Bud Brothers................4 Tantamount FC........... .0 |
||||||||||
When the Mount heard that a new team had joined the LLC, they were licking their licks in anticipation. A first win seemed imminent; this was their big chance to end that 29-game winless streak. When their chance arrived against the new 'boys', the desire and the mentality was clearly missing. The Mount put in a half-hearted performance and came out 4-0 losers. Bud Brothers didn't look particularly athletic or skillful, and looked very much like a new team. Yet when they grabbed a 1-0 lead with an accurate long-range shot after three minutes, Tanta's heads went down and even at that early stage of the game they looked and played as if it was already a lost cause. The lead was increased when a shot from the right found its way through Pilcher and Spencer's legs. When Bud Brothers scored their third in as many minutes, they were finding the going all too easy. The passing which the Mount had been markedly improving in was off, and the movement was thin to the point of non-existence. Dave Brockman, who trained with the Mount in pre-season, came on at half-time to make his debut in the sweeper role. He put in an impressive performance, making tackles and running the ball out of defence with an assuredness of someone who'd looked like they been playing 5-a-side for years. Just one goal was conceded in the second half as the Mount tightened things at the back. |

Attacking-wise, the Mount had offered little threat, with Ryan Charman restricted to shots from distance or being challenged just before he could pull the trigger. Perhaps the best chance fell to Pilcher. Playing in an unfamiliar left-sided position, he received the ball from Spencer and charged down the wing, beating his man who put in a rather half-hearted challenge. Presented with a narrow angle after over-running the ball, he hit a shot with his weaker left foot which the keeper saved. The Bud Brothers may have won 4-0 yet they are certainly a team that the Mount can beat. To do so though, they're going to have to play a lot better than they did in this game. Bud Brothers played with commitment and a high work-rate which were two attributes that the Mount were missing. Had Tantamount played the same way as they'd done against Shotgun in last week's game, this match report would have heralded their maiden victory; as it is, we're merely reporting another defeat. |
