FINAL SCORE:
Bud Brothers................2
Tantamount FC........... .1
New team Bud Brothers are the surprise package of the new season, riding high in the league and only knocked off top spot last week by relegated Sharks. Today they were more than matched by the Mount, and only some curious refereeing decisions cost the team in yellow a point.

Two minutes into the game the Mount took a surprise lead as the worked the ball from back to front. Spencer played the ball out to Jimbo Rose, who ran past his man before playing a pass into Ryan's path, and he made no mistake with a left-footed shot.

Bud Brothers huffed and puffed and equalised on five minutes, although confusion reigned. A shot from the left creeped past Spencer and in but, although clear to those on the touchline, both the Mount outfielders and Steve the ref were convinced it had gone through the side netting, and Steve awarded a keepers ball. Bud Brothers protested; Steve consulted Spence and, ever the honest professional, he confirmed it did indeed go in. 1-1.
Within a minute the Mount thought they had regained their lead when Ryan, again receiving a pass from Jimbo, hit a shot but was bundled over as he did so. The keeper fumbled it in, and Steve curiously blew for a Mount free-kick. Perhaps with a bit more protesting he would have given a goal, who knows, and it was to be rued later in the game when Bud Brothers extended their lead.

Defensively the Mount looked sound as a Dave Brockman-led defence stood firm against a series of Bud attacks. At the other end, they went oh-so-close to equalising.

Those on the touchline held their breath when, with barely minutes to go, Jimbo hit a sweet left-foot shot which beat the keeper, only to come back of the underside of the crossbar. The whistle blew and Bud Brothers celebrated their narrow victory; they'd been lucky, and knew it.
Brockman - yet another assured performance in defence
