FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
Elliot Allstars.................8 Tantamount FC........... .2 |
||||||||||
After the brilliant 3-2 win over FG Barnes, the side was bolstered by Pilch returning from just having witnessed Gillingham winning 4-3; it meant the Mount could, for the first time in a while, enter into a game with someone on the sub's bench. Pilch started for his first game in 2 weeks with Bondy dropping out. Unfortuantely the extra number ultimately counted for nothing as Elliot Allstars racked up 8 goals, 7 in the second half, but to say the score flattered them would be an understatement.
In a tight and open first half, the game was goalless until Martin struck with four minutes gone, taking advantage of a rebound to sidefoot beyond the keeper. It now means he has scored in each of his four Mote Park apps. Ollie and Rory went close on a couple of occasions, with Ollie firing agonisingly across goal, whilst a few times Pilch got himself in the way of strong shots and even got forward to have a shot himself, which the keeper saved. Spence meanwhile made some good saves, including coming out on top in a one-on-one. The Mount looked like going into the break 1-0 up until some poor marking from a free-kick gave the Allstars an equaliser. Playing the ball back from a free-kick, no-one had picked up the striker and he had plenty of time to rifle a shot into the bottom corner. |

Things took a turn for the worst as Elliot scored four goals in quick succession. There was nothing unusual about the 2nd and 3rd, both being strong shots, but Lady Luck was in bed with Allstars for 4 and 5. A long-shot was heading for goal and Pilch got a foot to it, but the deflection took it just beyond James' reach. There was a similar story for the 5th, with Spence unable to change direction after yet another deflection off Pilch.
Martin and Ollie were making plenty of inventive runs but just couldn't get shots away in the final third. Rory came on for Pilch and, after the Tanta's had gone 6-1 down, Rory struck his first Mount goal to reduce the deficit. Two late goals, including one fine solo effort after taking it past two Mount players, gave the Elliot an 8-2 victory . The score could have run into double figures but for Spence who was having none of it, repelling a couple of shots and again denying a striker in a one-one-one. Performance-wise this was a fine effort despite the scoreline. The large width of the Mote Park goals can be punishing, and so it proved again on this Tuesday evening. |
