FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
Rob Hewett...................5 Tantamount FC............ 2 |

Last season's runners-up Modbury - now known as Rob Hewett - produced yet another fine performance against the Mount, winning this tie 5-2. Hewett unsurprisingly saw most of the ball in the first half, although the Mount had their chances. Ryan Charman had a shot saved, and he later set-up Pilcher who saw his shot tipped over by the keeper. Unsurprisingly though Hewett opened the scoring, with an assured finish costumary of a team who were unlucky to miss out on winning the league last season. Their second scored two minutes after the break was fortuitous, coming off the post after a Spencer save somehow richocheted goalwards. There was nothing fortuitous about the Mount's first goal of the season though which came straight from the restart. Moody, receiving the ball out on the left, ran at the Hewett defence before sliding a nice pass into Charman's path, and his first-time curler was perfectly placed. |

Hewett upped their game and put the result beyond doubt with a further two goals, one finding its way through Spencer's legs, before David Spencer grabbed a goal on his debut. He produced a great finish with his right foot after some nice build-up work. Hewett's fifth came courtesy of Pilcher losing a 50-50 ball in the opposition half, which left a Hewett player the freedom of the Mount half. With no opponent in sight he unleashed an unstoppable shop which powered into the top corner. Pilch tried his luck with a shot from the resulting kick-off but the keeper saved. The Mount had shown glimpses of some fine football but, ultimately, were no match for the true Division 2 masters of the attacking game. |
