FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
SF Vets...........................4 Tantamount FC........... .5 |

After the 6-2 introductory game, the Mount's second game was initially a straightforward affair, although they almost threw away what looked like a guaranteed three points.
SF Vets allowed the Mount plenty of space and continuously backed off when the Tanta's pressed forward. It was a bad move: a cracking Ryan goal into the top corner put the Tanta's 1-0 up after just two minutes. Moments later, Ollie played a great ball to the far post, where an advancing Alex sidefooted with his weaker right-foot: 2-0. Five minutes in and Ollie takes on the SF defence before firing a shot into the corner: 3-0 to the Mount! The opponents replied with a stinging drive from distance which deceived the Spence, who had already made a handful of saves. But the Mount weren't done: a move similar to his earlier goal allowed Alex to claim his second of the game. 4-1 at half-time. The Mount began to lose their shape in the second half and allowed SF too much time on the ball. So it proved when the arrears were reduced to 4-2 with a goal from the right which nutmegged the Spence. The superb Ollie then replied with his second of the game. He had been giving the opposition a torrid time and hit a powerful effort across the keeper and in. |

Modders hit a shot just wide before setting up Pilch from a free-kick, but the sweeper's shot was straight at the keeper. The Vets were throwing men forward at the opposite end and a few loose clearances from the Mount weren't helping as they continued to surrender possession. A third was conceded after a string of SF passes and, with two minutes left, Bond was caught in possession allowing the opposition to race forward and score. With the three goal lead reduced to one there were some edgy moments, and it looked like the yellows were going to hit the self-destruct button. In the final moments however they staved off the Vets' attacks and held on to their lead, taking the 5-4 win and welcome points.
What took Tantamount FC 34 games to do at LLC took just two games to do at Mote Park. Three points, 7 goals, and some fine finishing and passing was a superb return for the opening day in their new league. |
