FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
Sharks..........................5 Tantamount FC...........3 |

In an entertaining, end-to-end game, two late finishes from runaway league leaders Sharks put paid to any hopes Tantamount had of a point - but the Mount came mighty close to causing a real upset. The Tanta's took the lead with practically their first attack of the game. Brothers Martin and Dave Brockman, playing together for the first time, combined for the latter to send a sidefooted curler to the keeper's left and put the Mount 1-0 up. Noakes went on a mazy run forward and could have added another, only for his fine effort from a narrow angle to come back off a post. Sharks equalised moments later, a great finish after some fine passing. Unexpectedly however the Mount were ahead again within a minute. In a similar move to the earlier goal Martin on the right passed to Dave on the left, only this time Dave sidefooted his shot into the other corner to give the Mount a 2-1 lead. Sharks equalised again however before the half was up. Spence pulled off a great save at his near post but the rebound fell kindly for a Sharks player to lash home into an unguarded net. |

The second half saw the return of Alex from travelling for his first appearance since March, and AJ acquiited himself extremely well for someone who hadn’t played since March. Modders and Sam also arrived onto the scene, both getting in amongst the action. They could do nothing though about the Sharks putting themselves 3-2 up, the team in green again producing an expert finish. With just minutes left the Mount were awarded a penalty. No appeals were needed, the Sharks defender clearly stepping in the area and Steve the ref blew for the pen. Sam stepped up and, although the keeper went the right way, Sam's penalty was tucked nicely just inside the post. 3-3. Two late goals however gave Sharks a 5-3 the win, the leaders proving they are adept at scoring goals when it really matters. They didn't deserve to win this tie by two clear goals but that's why they're top of the division. There was certainly no shame in any of the performances from the Tanta's; at the end Sharks acknowledged the Mount, as they knew they had been involved in a close contest. |
