FINAL SCORE: | ||||||||||
Shotgun.........................2 Tantamount FC........... 1 |
||||||||||
The Mount put in one of their best ever performances and yet, despite looking good for a win or at least draw, a last minute winner gave Shotgun a narrow victory. The Shotgun keeper was forced into two early saves, including a low shot from Ollie that looked goal-bound. At the other end J.Spencer had to be alert and was forced into some great stops as Shotgun threw more men forward as the half wore on. One rocket of a shot hit the post but, at half-time, neither team had managed to break the deadlock. The Mount took the lead in the second half through substitute Ryan Charman. Massive gaps appeared in the Shotgun defence and, having earlier gone close, Ryan made no mistake with a rebound that he tucked under the keeper. 1-0 almost became 2-0 but for a fierce David Spencer strike hitting the underside of the crossbar and an Ollie Howarth shot hitting the post. The Shotgun keeper was being kept busy, saving efforts from Pilcher, Charman and Howarth. |

The defence was resolute against the Shotgun attack as challenges flew in, with Pilcher throwing himself at two goal-bound efforts and Moody and Howarth making important tackles. Shotgun became more rattled, with Steve - for a welcome change - giving some soft decisions in the Mount's favour. Spencer had made a series of stops while an increasingly-irritated Shotgun began to fire shots high and wide. With just two minutes to go it began to fall apart: a well-hit shot beat Spencer to equal the scores. Few would have bet against the Mount losing this one but they somehow managed it: Shotgun grabbed an underdeserved winner with practically the last kick of the game. A Shotgun player overran the ball into the area, took a shortcut running across Spencer's zone to retrieve it and, as it exited the D, he drove a shot across Spence and into the net. He might not have been in when he hit the shot but he certainly had been in the build-up. 2-1 to Shotgun it finished, and a crushed Tantamount couldn't believe it - they had been well and truly robbed. Gutting. |
