Unathletic......................6 Tantamount FC........... .1 |

If a win on the opening day suggested that the Mount were going to find things easy at Mote Park, they were made to think again after a crushing 6-1 defeat.
Unathletic unfortunately proved their name wasn't apt as they controlled possession, defended resolutely and found themselves three goals to the good. They followed the golden 5-a-side rule of shooting low and hard, and each of the first three goals was placed well in the corners, leaving Spence with no chance. The Mount keeper was needed to produce several fine saves, one at his near-post particularly impressive. Ryan marked his final day before returning to Uni with a goal in the closing stages of the half. Receiving a pass from Bondy in a central position, he lashed home a shot from well outside the box which the keeper could only stand and watch go in. 3-1 at half-time. |

Unathletic responded aafter the break with a fourth; Ollie, on at half-time, could have reduced arrears but his finely-struck shot from the half-way line came back off the post. From free-kicks he then set up Pilch twice in quick succession but the defender was denied by Unathletic's solid rearguard. The Mount conceded two more late long range efforts to add a gloss to the scoreline, the sixth a speculative shot from way out that eluded everyone, including Spence who punched the crossbar in frustration at having let it past.
A pretty average performance was punished with a 6-1 thrashing. Unathletic fired off shots at will, whereas the Mount's total number of shots could have been counted on one hand; a lesson, perhaps, that the Mount shouldn't be afraid to shoot more often. |
