FINAL SCORE: | |||||||||||||
Wheatsheaf..................7 Tantamount FC........... .2 |
|||||||||||||
Report by Michael Pilcher | |||||||||||||
After the 6-0 horror show just two weeks previously, the Mount wanted to prove themselves. They had a 40 minute break to prepare themselves after the Dynamite game and were looking to make Wheatsheaf work hard.
30 seconds in: Wheatsheaf shoot, Wheatsheaf score. 1 minute later: Wheatsheaf shoot, Wheatsheaf score. Four shots and four goals in the first three minutes, the shell-shocked lads were looking at another battering. Cometh the hour, cometh the man reborn. Sam Charman, starting up front only because Moody wasn’t feeling up to it, latched onto a pass and struck a sweet shot into the top corner. A minute later, he showed great timing to side foot the ball into the bottom corner. Two great finishes, you wouldn’t have believed he’d gone all season without a goal. Crucially, it was 4-2, and the Mount were back in it. |

Ollie Howarth was giving the Wheatsheaf players problems and worked himself into a great position. After leaving a defender for dead, he found himself one-on-one with the keeper, only to be denied by a superb save. Wheatsheaf soon added a fifth to put the result beyond doubt. 5-2 at half-time, the second half became about keeping the score respectable.
Both teams were restricted to long shots as the Mount kept it tight and Wheatsheaf slowed the game down. Moody and Ollie had a couple of long range efforts, Alex was unlucky with one effort and, in an early attempt, Pilcher charged goal-wards from half-way but overran the ball. Two goals in two second half minutes saw the score extend to 7-2. A game the Tanta’s performed well in in fits and starts, they were undone by a transformed Wheatsheaf who have worked very hard on their finishing. |

Manager's Comments: | |||||||||||||
"I wouldn’t say it is a poor performance but you cannot afford to start games like that. Their opening four goals were all well placed, right across goal into the corners, but the first two were almost identical. We needed to be tighter and it wasn’t until we were 4-0 down that we started to be.
Credit to Sam, I told him on the Saturday night that he was going to get one this weekend and he did. It was a great finish and then, when he was on a high from the first, he went and got a second, cool as you like. It’s just a shame that this will be his last game as a full-time Tanta. But he;ll be back soon enough, he loves it too much. We also bid farewell to Alex which is a big loss. He was a great player and something of an unsung hero. Whether on the left or upfront he gave his all, and we hope to see him back." |
