Administrative Order No. 225

 

 

HARNESSING IDLE RESOURCES TO UPLIFT THE POOR AND BOOST RICE SUPPLY TO CUSHION THE IMPACT ON THE COUNTRY FROM PRICE SPIKES

 

I, GLORIA M. ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by the powers vested in me by law, do hereby order:

 

SECTION 1.  Government-owned and –controlled corporations, government financial institutions, the Philippine Gaming Corporation, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, the National Power Corporation and the Philippine National Oil Company, shall allocate five percent (5%) of their 2007 surplus for projects in rice, low-cost consumer and medicine outlets, Philhealth and microfinance, in accordance with relevant laws, charters and by-laws.

 

SEC. 2.  The Department of Agriculture, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Justice-Office of the Government Corporate Counsel shall provide advice, coordination and technical support to the above-mentioned corporations and institutions in planning and implementing the pro-poor projects.

 

SEC. 3.  The National Anti-Poverty Commission shall oversee the implementation of this order and validate if the poor do benefit from the projects, which should be started not later than July.

 

SEC. 4.  The Department of Agriculture shall utilize idle lands for rice and other food production, consulting with Senator Edgardo Angara, who has advocated additional cultivation of one million hectares.

 

Done in the City of Manila, on this 1st day of April, in the Year of Our Lord, Two Thousand and Eight.
