AFJROTC / TX-924 is a student run high school organization. Like other clubs, in TX-924 many cadets stay after school to help run the unit. One thing that AFJROTC teaches that other clubs don't are very useful leadership skills that will help cadets even after high school. Unlike many other student organizations and other JROTC units, TX-924 is totally voluntary. Staying after school is at the discretion of the cadet. The grade of the cadet is in no way affected by their participation in extra-curricular activities.
Activities that every cadet has to participate:
Uniform Days Thursday is the authorized uniform day where cadets wear the issued uniform to school for the day. During the cadet's JROTC class (or flight), they will be inspected by the Flight Commander, which is a higher ranking cadet with the responsibility to run the class. These grades make up a large part of the 6 weeks grade for that cadet. The only cost of the uniform is the $15 cleaning deposit paid at the beginning of the year, and returned at the end of the year (if the uniform has been professionally cleaned when returned).
Fort Bend County Parade A parade in September in where cadets march with their peers through the 2.7 mile parade route to mark the beginning of the Fort Bend County Fair.
Commander's Call Held at the beginning of each semester, these meetings create the oppurtunity for the new Group Commander and staff to introduce themselves formally to the group. It also expresses simple goals for the semester and clarifies policies by the Group Commander. It is usual held after school in the school auditorium one of the first few weeks of school.
Unit Pass-in-Review A parade-like atmosphere where the cadets of our unit march past a reviewing stand and invited guests, while also saluting the higher ranking personnel on each pass. TX-924 holds a Pass in Review around the beginning of May. Activities include: a Change of Command Ceremony, the announcing of Outstanding Flight and (possibly) Honor Unit and recognition to cadets who have helped in the annual inspection. The cadets do almost all the speaking and performing of this event.
District Pass-in-Review A parade-like atmosphere where the cadets of our unit join other schools from our district around the beginning of May. Activities include marching past a reviewing stand and the recognition of graduating senior cadets of each JROTC unit.
Other events held annually:
Dining Out A formal dinner held close to Christmas break in which there is an awards ceremony, a guest speaker, a change of command ceremony, and a dance. There is also a P.O.W.-M.I.A.-K.I.A. ceremony, which honors our fallen comrades and sister services. To pay for the entire evening (at a cost of about $2500) cadets participate in fundraisers. The entire event is planned very carefully by a committee made up of cadets, which anyone is allowed to join. Tickets prices are about eight dollars.
Military Ball A dance and awards ceremony in which the national AFJROTC medals are given. There is also a Royal Court, which is very similar to Homecoming festivities. Finally there is another Change of Command ceremony. Ticket prices are the same as for Dining Out.

There is a tour of the campus, a briefing by the top Corps members, followed by a performance by the Aggie Fish Drill Team. Cadets are also admitted to an Aggie Football game that day.

Cadets make their own shelters and participate in Flight Olympics events such as races, obstacle courses, physical competitions, shelter building and cooking contests. There is also a game of capture the flag at night in the swampy area in the back. It is a very popular event, and to this day there has not been any injuries of any kind.
Ellington AFB Cadets are given a tour of an F-16C Falcon Squadron and an AH-64 Apache Squadron. Many things about the aircraft are explained by the crews that work on the craft.
