Day 10 - Lake Powell
Back Home Up Next

Lake Powell is in the north of Arizona just a mile from the town of Page.  It’s a National Park so a fee is required to get near it.

Lake Powell is an artificial lake that is used to power a hydro-electric damn.  Tours at the damn were cancelled due to the WTO crisis.

At the heart of the lake is Antelope Island.  Numerous canyons and rivers are at the side of the lake.  It’s a popular haunt for American tourists.  They can rent speed boats, jet-skis and house boats.

This is a photo of me as I am about to board a tour boat for the Navajo Tour.  It’s a circular tour around Antelope Island and it goes into two different canyons.  It takes around 2 hours.

I stayed in Page, AZ.  It’s a town of around 11,000 people.  It was founded in 1957, around the time that work on the damn started.  It’s a quiet city that consists mainly of a semi-circular road that is just off of the highway
