A REVIEW of:

2 x 9 Jose Chung's "The Real World"

written by Megan Reilly

airdate: 7.14.00

Synopsis (From website): While evading Santiago, Pinocchio,
Florence, and Hobbes come face to face with a prominent
journalist in the Realm - acclaimed author Jose Chung. But does
this virtual character know more about the Real World than he's
letting on?

Review:

I'm backkkkkkkkkkkk. Your friendly neighborhood reviewer has
returned from his (not overly deserved) vacation and is back to
do more reviews - if someone would actually read and respond my
budget does cover cookies :)

And without further ado...The review is here.

The Chris Carter series fans will notice Jose Chung has appeared
in the X-Files:

Jose Chung's "From Outer Space" (3x20)

and Millennium:

Jose Chung's "Doomsday Defense"(MLM-209)

Both written by: Darin Morgan

Now it's appeared here and (if you judge by the two earlier Jose
Chung episodes) it should be excellent.

Great opening. The set up is nice, and I could just
see this on TV so well :)

Beyond that, while I have the guilty pleasure (as some of my
readers (that is if I have any) may remember) of enjoying Hobbes
voice-overs.

I also enjoyed the whole Friday night sci-fi series replacement
joke. Along with the standard release form :)

This is great, I'm smiling throughout the whole episode. Oh yes,
I suppose you want to know what's going on. While Jose Chung is
doing a bit (on Friday night at nine :) on the rebels outside
Santiago City. That basically equals following our brave team of
adventures as they wander around, breaking into factories and the
like.

Jose Chung's talk show attitude is great, i.e. - Hobbes, have you
slept with Florence, slept with Pinocchio, etc...:) making fun of
both talk shows and (I would think) all the HR slash fanfic on
the net :)

It seems Jose Chung wants to know about the Real World and is
pressuring Hobbes while good ol' Pinocchio doesn't want to tell
him because he doesn't want Chung to get hurt (if he aired
footage of people saying the real world exists).

Chung talking calmly to Florence while she doesn't say anything -
priceless.

Not to mention Dexter! woohoo. It's even funnier, damn this
episode is great.

Back with Florence as the Cameraman and Sound Guy talk about
their profession. She then indicates to the group that yes, they
do need help...mental help :)

				CHUNG

No one ever expects to see anything intelligent

or meaningful on television. The very nature of

the medium hides the fact that you’ve got

		something important to say.

I just put that in because it is true. The TRUTH is out there,
haven't the X-Files taught you anything.

				CHUNG

There is another world, isn’t there?

	Hobbes is silent.

				CHUNG

How does it work? Dark matter, anti-matter?

		"Sliders"?

Heh.

Cameraman and Sound Guy are great, I want them back!

Chung leads the Republican Guard to them because he needs some
good shots...:)

Pinocchio making fun of Hobbes voice-overs and more eating the
dog jokes - Is this episode the best or what? (The answer, in
case you were wondering, is: the best)

Whoa. That's some freaky possible ending to the series.

So Pinocchio carved Siege, and Perilous into the portal chair
(and probably that table I vaugly remember from some episodes
ago). Also Chung talks about another prophecy that's too long to
go into but basically means Pinocchio's the one.

				CHUNG (V.O.)

In the end, doesn’t it all come down to the

instinct to survive? Because no matter what we

feel or believe, we can’t know with any certainty

whether there are worlds beyond this one. We

accept the reality with which we are presented.

The Matrix, Simulacra and Simulation, The Truman Show. I love
it.

No flaws, not one, nada, nyet, nothing.

Except......

It doesn't continue the story arc, but I don't care.

The best episode yet, right up there (but maybe not all the way)
with the earlier Jose Chung episodes, if only because of

A+
