Newspapers |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
You can get English papers delivered right to your door, or you can pick them up in bookstores. Check to see if your school has a subscription, as many do. Some of the ones out there are: The Daily Yomiuri, Japan Times, The Asahi Evening News, Asahi Weekly, Mainichi Weekly. One problem is that a lot of the info is Tokyo-centered. They seem to be printed the day before, so news is not quite as up-to-the-minute as you may be used to at home. The last thing is that the Japanese reporting style can be very...vague or roundabout. The mainstream papers are also rather conservative and pro-status quo. You may find yourself looking for other news sources on the Net or by subscription. They can give you a unique look at Japanese society and culture, though! |
