CONAN: "Please welcome, Ally Walker. Thanks very much for coming."
ALLY: "Well thank you for having me."
CONAN: "I love the title of your show, the Profiler. And the show right before it was called, was it called the Pretender?"
ALLY: "The Pretender."
CONAN: "Okay, alright. There's like, I love those, like, you know - -"
ALLY: "The Percolator..."
CONAN: "The Percolator, the Laminator. He laminates library cards. This card wasn't laminated before but now it has a thick plastic coating. It makes it more water resistant, thank you Laminator. A lot of fun that way, I'm sorry."
ALLY: "No, no no."
CONAN: "Well tell us what your show is about because it has a very interesting premise."
ALLY: "Well it's about my character, her name is Dr Samantha Waters, and there are actually people on this planet who are profilers. They work for the FBI, there in Quantico. They are usually behavioral psychologists and they go in, they go to crime scene and look at forensic evidence and physical evidence, kinda take it to a different level. They find out all they can about the victim and if they get to know the victim really well they can figure out the killer."
CONAN: "Oh so it's like a psychological profile."
ALLY: "Yes."
CONAN: "Like they guy who did this was a real nut."
ALLY: "Right, right. He was bad - -"
CONAN: "He was violent, and he's a murderer - -"
ALLY: "Yeah, he killed - -"
CONAN: "And you should watch out for him if you see him some place, he's got a knife. Well folks, where's my cheque? Pass it over."
ALLY: "No, no. It's really fascinating though because they take these little clues and they can figure out what this person weighs and you know, where he might live, all these little things."
CONAN: "Yeah, especially now, when you read about it, when you're looking for serial killers or something, they can find out amazing things, like based on a tiny thread they can say 'He's 6'4, he's got red hair, he's a talk show host'. That's just an example.
ALLY: "Or Andy."
CONAN: "Now before... your story is very fascinating because you were actually a scientist in real life and then suddenly you got into acting and you've had all this success. How did you get your first break as an actor, how did you get discovered?"
ALLY: "Well it was kinda weird. I was actually coming down to LA to visit my boyfriend and apply to UCLA med school. And I was at a restaurant in Sherman Oaks which is in the valley. I was sitting there, having dinner with my boyfriend and we were laughing and talking. A producer came over to me and asked me, he said to me 'You know you're very funny and you have this great way of yadi yadi ya'. He asked me for to audition for a role in a movie he was doing, I thought he was, like, a weirdo and I was just like 'No...'"
CONAN: "I know, it's like such a line in LA, you know - -"
ALLY: "I know."
CONAN: "- - a guy coming up to you and saying 'I couldn't help but notice your laugh - -'"
ALLY: "Exactly! 'How wonderful you are'"
CONAN: " 'Will you come back to my apartment and I'll show you aa... some videos, some films I've done'. You know what I mean, it's such a thing in LA, that's... you're laughing but in LA I used to try that all the time on women. Go up to them and 'I couldn't help but notice your laugh - -' 'I wasn't laughing, you creep' 'Oh, I'll walk away'"
ALLY: "But it happened that way - -"
CONAN: "Did your boyfriend think the guy was hitting on you?"
ALLY: "My boyfriend knew the guy, he was an actual producer and it was an actual film, it was with Chris Makepeace and Tia Carrere. And I got the part and subsequently ended up on the cutting room floor, but I got my SAG card and started working."
CONAN: "Yeah, you got in the door, which is an important thing. And then you were in a film with Jean Claude van Damme."
ALLY: "Jean Claude van Damme."
CONAN: "Does he make you say that all at once, Jeanclaudevandamme?"
ALLY: "I can't."
CONAN: "Or does he allow you to have, cos most people - -"
ALLY: "He allows the pauses there, the hyphens, thank you very much."
CONAN: "Okay, alright. And who's the other one, the other action hero you were, Dolph Lundgren?"
ALLY: "Dolph Lundgren, and I just worked with Shaq so I get a lot of big action guys, you know."
CONAN: "Did you have any physical sequences, if you're in a Jean Claude van Damme movie - -"
ALLY: "Yes, I can fight."
CONAN: "Did you actually have to, you know, aa - -"
ALLY: "Kick box?"
CONAN: "Probably kick box or something."
ALLY: "There were several kick boxing scenes, no, no, there weren't, I didn't have to fight."
CONAN: "Really? So you didn't ever get hurt making any of those movies?"
ALLY: "Well actually there was a, no that isn't true, I actually cracked my rib, there is a scene where something is exploding or something and I'm getting thrown or something, and Dolph's character is supposed to throw me, sort of out of the way. And we kept rehearsing, the rehearsals were fine, I just threw myself, you know, you do those fake lunges, 'Oh there's the car' and um..."
CONAN: "Yoy say that as you're soaring through the air?"
ALLY: "Exactly, it's like 'Go hit the car' and Dolph is helping me, acting propelling me. And, you know, when it came time for rolling and we do it, it's like Dolph is throwing me and I'm jumping, hurling."
CONAN: "Wow."
ALLY: "And so I hit the car and cracked my rib."
CONAN: "You see, at that point I'd demand, there's a scene where Dolph's supposed to beat me the crap out of me, I'd say why can't we as get to that scene, I'll step out and put like a broom with a bucket on top of it there, put some freckles on it and you know, hit that and hope no one notices it. You use stunt double or something."
ALLY: (laughing) "Oh my God... well I wish they would've at this point, at that point because I cracked my rib but I didn't think of it."
CONAN: "Just be safe, that's the important thing."
ALLY: "Thank you."
CONAN: "That's why I like this job, Andy and I sit here and we calcify here over the years. Okay, Profiler, you like it with the way I say it?"
ALLY: "Yes I love the way you say it."
CONAN: "Profilers... Profiler, Saturdays at ten on NBC, you should check it out. Ally Walker, it was very nice to meet you."
ALLY: "Very nice meeting you."
CONAN: "Thanks for coming to the show. Ally Walker, everybody."
