Simple ways to entertain kids at home and in the car.
Travel Fun!
- Bring a cookie sheet to use as a magnet board, blocks table, art tray, lunch tray, etc.
- Colorforms will stick to car windows for hours of pretent play.
- Car travel Game: Cut out pictures of items such as farm animals, buildings, and signs that you will see on the trip. Glue pictures ontp index cards and cover with clear contact paper. Shuffle and give to children 3-5 at a time. Have children look along the way for these items. First one to spot all of theirs wins the hand. Deal again till all cards are dealt and found.
- License Plate Game: Using the first three letters of a license plate, create fun or funny phrases & sentences. For example, a plate reading TMS341 could be Tickle Me Silly or Time Moves Slow.
- Happy Heart counting ryme: Cut 4 small hearts out of red felt and decorate with markers and wiggle eyes. Cut a strip of felt a little bigger than the width of you finger and attatch to the back of each heart to make puppet. Using the puppets and finger motions, sing the rhyme below.
Four little hearts dancing a jig (hold up 4 fingers), one went home to play with his pig (put one finger down).

Two little hearts looking so sweet, one was hungry and went to eat.
One little heart all sad and blue, Now he is happy because he's with you (give final heart to child). - Peek-a-boo a new way: Cut up a large picture of an item familiar to children such as an animal or toy. Place all the pieces into an envelope. Have children draw out one piece at a time and try to guess what the item is.
