Commandos Tactics
Commandos Tactics
Created from the experiences of Andrew Schofield, Mike Thompson and Adam Milne
Saving Tactics
It is extremely important to backup your quicksaves with proper saves. Remember, you only have one quicksave which is overwritten each time you quicksave, so it's important to periodically do a proper save in a new slot every time so that if something unexpected happens you can go back. A good idea is to save after every kill. What ever you do think before you quicksave and DO NOT PRESS QUICKSAVE INSTEAD OF QUICKLOAD!
Dead Body Technique
Using the Green Beret or Spy who can carry bodies, you can intentionally place a dead body in a soldier's line of sight to attract his attention. You can then get behind him and stab or harpoon him. To see the soldier's line of sight use the field of view function(BDI).
Decoy and Trap
The trap can be used with the decoy for lethal results. First work out the soldier's route from his current position to the decoy. Put the trap on this route and he will die a death. Beware, sapper is a retard and stands up when he operates the trap making him a tempting target for the Germans. Sniper also stands up when he shoots, ooooaaf! If you are class and have imaculate timing you can take out a pair of soldiers using this technique. Just have the Green Beret stab the second soldier at the same time as the first one gets trapped.
Static Trap Technique
In emergencies the sapper can kill static soldiers with the trap, similar to the stab. Simply stand behind the soldier and open the trap upon him. This may take several attempts, but will work.
Green Beret and Spy Combo
The Spy and the Green Beret work very well together. The spy ditracting an enemy soldier and the Green Beret stabbing them. Note this does not work with groups of soldiers as they here the Green Beret stabbing.
Windowing and Metronomes
There are often times when you have to kill a soldier who is occasionally seen by 1 or more other soldiers. Using the field of view function, if you time it right you can kill the solider and move him in a "window". However you can can only have one field of view at a time. Therefore, you can use a metronome or a gullable friend to move in sync with the other soldiers field of view.
Stab and Crouch
When an enemy soldier is in the the dark green part of another soldiers field of view you can use windowing and kill the soldier and immediately crouch and you will not get seen.
Footprint Technique
When you first play the snowy and sandy levels you may think that the enemy soldiers telepathically know where you are, not so, Your commandos leave footprints and when the germans see them they will come and investigate and probably see you. You can use footprints to attract the attention of enemy sodiers this way. If you are cunning you might be able to use the trap here.
General Tips and Tricks
- All German soldiers are not the same. They all react differently to the above lures.
- Destroying Barracks is a good way of killing soldiers allowing to then ignore the alarm.

The Bugs of Commandos Land
- Beware of lying field of views especially around multi level landscapes.
- Beware of scenery that is infact transparent. The germans can see and shoot through it.
- Running into stationary tanks can kill you!
- Double clicking does not always result in running.
- Occasionally a soldier will see a dead body a very long time after he has been killed, even though the soldier hasn't moved or done anything
- All the commandos are a bit dense and don't often choose the best routes to a destination. You must guide them around obstacles.
