In the current generation of love teams, Marvin Agustin is the Crown Prince. (After all, Judy Ann's Wowie is currently in some sort of reengineering, after his last 2 Judy Ann-less outings did less than great at the box-office. Angelu's Bobby likewise has lost some foothold, after Joko.) Marvin does fulfill the ideal qualities of a love team's half---"kilig"-ability, fidelity, that rare instant compatibility with the partner, and that even rarer ability to keep viewers guessing the score.
To date, the Marvin-Jolina tandem is Star Cinema's only fully owned hot ticket to more teen flick hits (Of the JudyAnn-Wowie-Rico triangle, only Rico is Star Cinema's). Marvin-Jolina's soft launch, Flames The Movie did not only score heavily in Metro Manila (breaking the then 1997 mid-year box-office nadir), but also raked it in nationwide (especially in Marvin-Jolina bailiwicks Cebu City and Davao). It also gave star Records its first multi-platinum album ever.
Now, Star Cinema's upcoming movie event "Kung Ayaw mo Wag Mo" solidifies the tradition to which Marvin-Jolina belongs: that cute, feel-good, bubbly romance from the days of Susan-Eddie, Vilma-Edgar, Maricel-William and Manilyn-Janno. Anyone can feel for Marvin's down-to-earth role as a taxi driver who falls for his regular hatid-sundo, the carinderia princess Jolina. Marvin's reluctant voice now roams the airwaves with Jolina in "TL ako sa 'Yo" the love theme of the movie.
After Kung Ayaw mo Wag Mo is a slew of love stories with the most enchanting flavors, all calibrated to make anyone swoon. "Okay Ka Lang" is next in line; a movie tailored for Baguio to get a 90's "Kung Mangarap ka't Magising" feel. In this movie, Marvin-Jolina moves forward from puppy/first love, to sweep-off-your-feet romance.
