Hickenwood Lane

This is, reputedly, the highest spot in the immediate Clowne area. Certainly there is a 'triangulation point' near where this picture was taken (behind me at about 4 o'clock)

I have often heard that, if you look in the opposite direction to this photo (ie behind me), you can see Lincoln Cathedral on a clear day. I've never seen it personally (at least not from Hickenwood Lane). But there is, nevertheless, an awesome view; as well as the surrounding villages of Clowne, Creswell, Whitwell, Bolsover and Nether Langwith, you can see Chesterfield TV mast plus another transmitting mast (thought to be near Sheffield).

As to be expected, radio reception up there is brilliant.

Lower down the hill, just before you reach Clowne, is the "Piggery Pond" - an area teeming with wildlife.
